Who we help:
-
The word cancer can strike fear in patients and their families. At Grace's House, Karen has over 20 years counseling cancer patients and their families. From initial biopsy through survivorship, she can provide guidance to thrive during your or your loved one's cancer journey.
-
We grieve because we love. With deep love comes deep grief. Karen has decades of experience supporting those as they grieve the death of a loved one. She blends her extensive clinical experience as both a grief counselor and trauma therapist to comfort those who grieve.
-
If you struggle with medical or health-based anxiety and have not found relief through previous therapy, Karen can help. She brings extensive experience and a trauma-focused perspective on managing medical and health-based.
-
Working in healthcare is a calling and a challenge. The pressures and stress of working in healthcare can be draining. Karen can help identify strategies to cope with burnout and vicarious trauma so you can enjoy the profession you are called to.
-
Police, firefighters and emergency medical staff are often exposed to pain, crisis, loss, and trauma in the course of caring for others. Karen provides a supportive space to process work-related trauma and reduce burnout so you can continue serving others while also caring for yourself.
How we help:
-
EMDR is am evidenced-based therapy that helps your brain safely process traumatic memories. It changes how your nervous system stores distress. This shifts traumatic events from feeling like active threats to becoming neutral memories of the past.
-
Internal Family Systems, or IFS, is a therapy approach that helps you understand the different “parts” of yourself, such as the caregiver part, the professional part, the protective part, or the overwhelmed part. Instead of seeing these parts as problems, IFS helps you listen to them with curiosity and compassion so you can better understand what they need and respond from a calmer, more grounded place.
-
Faith-integrated therapy (or Christian counseling) combines professional mental health care with your spiritual beliefs. Karen is able to integrate your belief system into therapy to provide holistic care and improved outcomes.
-
MBCT is a modified form of cognitive therapy that incorporates mindfulness practices that include present moment awareness, meditation, and breathing exercises.
